Depth Classifications

  • Superficial (Stratum Corneum to Basal Layer): Glycolic acid (30-50%), Salicylic acid (20-30%), Jessner's solution (1-3 coats). Minimal downtime (1-3 days). Targets superficial dyschromia and acne.
  • Medium Depth (Papillary Dermis): Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) 35%, or Jessner's + TCA 35%. Significant downtime (7-14 days). Targets actinic keratoses, moderate rhytides, and deeper melasma.
  • Deep (Reticular Dermis): Phenol (Baker-Gordon formula). Extensive downtime, requires cardiac monitoring. Targets severe photoaging and deep scarring.
